Be Present and Listen

In such a busy world, it can be hard to be in the present. For the most part, I find myself thinking about my next meeting and what I need to do.

Also, remote working does not help either. Whilst in meetings, we can now multitask and do the report we need to finish writing whilst “listening in”.

In today’s world, it is hard to be both present and listening. With hybrid working, people are finding it easier to be distant and get their work done rather than be in the presence of others.

Also, with so many things to do, it can be easy to listen to respond quickly or not listen at all and think about what you have to do next.

So, next time you are interrupted at your desk by a team member, think about how you can be both present at that moment and listen. Instead of keeping your emails open, lock your screen and turn to them.

Instead of thinking of the solution to their query before they finish, repeat their question to them to ensure you have understood and listened.

In doing these small things, we show our team members how much we appreciate them.
