Creating a Purpose Statement for Life
“If you have a strong purpose in life, you don’t have to be pushed. Your passion will drive you there.”
Roy T. Bennet
As we come to the end of this purpose series, I wanted to leave you with something that helped me. I remember sitting on a train on the way back from school thinking about what I wish to do in the world. I had just received a bad grade and was told by my teacher I should think of changing career paths.
The combination of both of these things caused me to question my choices. On one hand, I knew what I wanted to be and I had a one-way path to get there. However, on the other, I felt like I could be more than what I had chosen to pursue in life.
But I had no proof to show me I could be more but my own self-belief. And self-belief can only take you so far. Eventually, you have to start producing results to prove your claims true about yourself. And to my knowledge, I had not done that.
So, not only did I feel lost about where I was going, but I also did not know who I wanted to become. So, I needed something that would help me pinpoint these things in a short sentence or two. And that is when I came across the purpose statement.
