Do Companies Really Care About Black Lives Matter?

Over this time we have seen many companies come forward expressing their views on racism in America. Twitter, Nickelodeon and Ben & Jerry’s, to name a few, have all taken part in the BLM movement during this period of time. We must first acknowledge that this is not the first time companies have spoken about their views for minority groups. We saw it for the LGBTQ+ community not too long ago. In fact, every year we see many companies decorate their stores in rainbows as a sign to show their support. Identity Politics is the voice of those who are part of a minority or oppressed group. It plays a huge role in supporting and making sure that the concerns of the minority are heard. Now, what does that have to do with the companies we buy and sell from. The answer is quite a lot. Companies are smart in their schemes and tactics to do one thing. And that is to maximise profits.
