The joy of learning is most evident in young children as they use their curious spirits to find new things. They love finding out what is going on around them and take every opportunity to ask questions.

It is this joy in learning that we tend to lose as we grow up. As a result, many students devalue the importance of school and lose their willingness to learn. However, knowing how to unlock that willingness to learn is the key to putting the joy back in learning.

Here are three things you can do to start helping your students appreciate school:

1. Give Students Autonomy

Sticking to a curriculum allows for organisation and more efficient learning. However, as children, we were free to learn whatever we want.

Giving students the time to ask questions outside of the curriculum and build on the knowledge they seek will bring about the autonomy to learning they once had.

2. Make Learning Relational

Standing at the front and presenting your slides is easy to do, but it is one-directional. The best teachers know how to make learning a relational transaction between their students and their lesson.
