How To End The Day Well

I found myself in a conversation with a trained clinical psychologist today. She was giving me tips on how I could potentially improve my day to day life.

I had already read up on many of the techniques she was suggesting, but one thing stood out to me.

I often find myself rushing at the end of my day to get things done. And it is because these are the things I don’t necessarily want to do. Although, I somehow always get them done and I always feel discontentment. Not because I am not pleased with my day or work, but because I ended with something I did not want to do.

She advised me to do everything the other way round. To instead, start the day with the thing I don’t want to do. It is proven that we actually have a more positive outlook on the day, and gradually improve our productivity as the day goes on when we start with what we do not want to do.

I never thought of it like this, but it makes sense right? Our days often come with good and bad bits, and we often stumble over them as the hours pass by. However, if we make the deliberate decision to start with the ugly and end with the beautiful, we go to bed with positive energy ready to start the next day.

We say leave the best till last, so we are left with a splendid taste in our mouths. So why not apply it to our days? Well, that is what I am going to start doing anyway.

Leave the best till last.
