How to Use Empathy to Create Value for Others
“Empathy is about finding echoes of another person in yourself.”
- Mohsin Hamid
When we are empathising with someone, we make it our duty to understand how their feeling. But another big part of empathy is sharing how that person is feeling too. We do this by matching our emotions to the person we are empathising with.
For example, if someone is sad, we become disheartened. Because of this, the person feels appreciated and is more inclined to tell us what is wrong. However, empathy is not just all about caring for someone who is in a bad situation. It can be used in many other ways, and one of these ways is creating value for others.
Now, value is a rather broad term because we can do countless things to add value to others. Whether that be making them laugh or buying them a coffee. But, the type of value I am talking about is the one that we create with our hands through design.
That could be online content for the masses, a presentation at work or writing an article. All of the above are things that have to be created by someone. And here is how you can begin making creations with empathy to create value for others.
