Poor students are amongst some of the most likely to fail their exams and get a low paying job. Therefore, it is essential that teachers take extra care in ensuring that their student’s experience is a positive one.

In this article, I will suggest three ways you can give your poor students hope.

Separate Performance and Circumstance

Although a poor students environment may be affecting their performance, it is essential to separate the two. Focus on the areas where you can help the students, and that is in their academic studies.

Ask them if they need extra help with work rather than if everything is okay at home. Focusing on performance allows them to believe that their environment does not need to define their performance.

Be a Role Model

Think about what you want all your students to remember you for before teaching every class. By doing this, you will portray behaviours that have a lasting effect on your students.

In doing so, you give your poor students hope. And that could be the difference between their success or failure.

Take Their Ambitions Seriously
