Relationships Die due to Greed

Following on from the post not too long ago on instrumental vs intrinsic goods. I thought it would be good to show you how this affects the way we see our romantic and friendly relationships also.

Now we finished on a rather positive note. That our pursuit of success is very much dependent upon how we measure the importance of our goods.
However, we must now look at the very subtle problem of using instrumental goods to place value on our relationships. Divorce rates in the UK are currently around 42% according to recent statistics. We are also seeing the average age of marriage climbing in the UK. For opposite-sex couples, the average age for men was around 37, for women 35.
A huge part of this is our increased pursuit for instrumental goods, rather than focussing on intrinsic values. But this greed for instrumental value has also led to subtle changes in the way we measure value in each other.
