Thanks for the thought-provoking read Anna! I think you raise some good points about communication. I especially like the point you made about humour because these are tools that can be used to increase engagement and make one stand out.

However, it is important to acknowledge that people that go on TED talks get extensive private hire public speaking training. They are all trained to present in a certain way and use certain hand movements and positioning on the stage.

My friend who has done a TED talk told me about this, and to be honest with you, he has never presented a pitch or anything of the sorts in that way again.

I agree with John that a TED talk is as much as a performance as it is informative and they both hold equal weight. But with teaching that is not the case, and it should not be.

I have found my best performing teachers do not have the best presentation skills or communication skills. They showed me every day through deliberate actions their passion for their job and subject.

I may just write an article on it 😂

Anyway, as always, thanks for the insightful read and I was able to take some very key points away from it that I will be considering. 😃
