The Benefits of Taking Time to Write for Yourself
Top writers will often advise you to find a niche and focus on adding value to your audience. Although I agree with this advice, at the beginning of my writing journey it did not help me.
As a new writer, it can be hard to write with the confidence you need to attract readers. So, here is why I advise you should write for yourself first. There are many benefits to doing so, but here are the top three I have found.
You Write for the Joy of Writing
Once you have an audience, showing up for them becomes habitual. Although you still enjoy writing, it can sometimes feel a bit like a job whilst you try to ensure your writing is a good standard for the many eyes on the web.
However, the joy of writing is found when we are free to do it when we want. The motivation to write should come from the joy we seek to experience through practising it. And there is no better way to express that joy than writing for your own happiness.
You Learn How to Show up for Yourself
The hardest thing about content creation is the need to continue to show up. We have to constantly create for readers and consider what the audience needs.
