The Pursuit for Love & Belonging in a Broken World

Those who have a strong sense of love and belonging have the courage to be imperfect.

Brene Brown

It has been a long time since we looked at the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs. The last level we did was safety needs, and you can find it here if you missed it.

Today, I wanted to explore the level above safety needs which is known as love and belonging. Although it is an obvious need for society, it seems harder to find every day. The dilemma we often face is a battle between authenticity and the love and belonging we need.

If we are not part of a group where we can experience love, we feel vulnerable. However, if belonging to that group comes at a cost of us being able to express our true selves, we feel misunderstood. Unfortunately, we live in a world where everyone wants to be something else but themselves.

The pressure from social media constantly tells us what we should be. And political correctness repeatedly reminds us what our views should be. Whether we like it or not, we have to admit that the world has made it harder to find a true sense of belonging.
