More than ever, students are being told that their degree is not worth much in today’s world. Social influencers encourage students to start their own businesses and not waste money doing a degree.

We also see students complaining about the lack of worth their degree has. Many of them come out of university without a job, and this causes them to reconsider their choices.

However, there is great value in doing a degree, it is just that many are blind to the true value of it.

The Benefits of Doing a Degree

The research is clear on this one. Those who do a degree will earn more than peers who did not do degrees over their lifetime on average. Those who do degrees are also more likely to live longer and happier lives. We also find an interesting positive correlation between degrees and successful marriage rates.

Those who scorn upon degrees and tell you it adds nothing to your life have simply not read enough. The benefits of having a degree are clear. However, many tend to use degrees as a means to an end. Unfortunately, when used as only an instrumental good, a degree may seem rather pointless.
