As we move to a more individualistic society, employees now want to feel like they can be themselves at work. For companies, this presents a new problem. Firstly, most people struggle to understand who they are in the first place. We are humans and are often amongst groups. Secondly, leaders must create autonomous working environments whilst also trying to lead.

If companies are to ensure the next generation enjoy the culture they work in, it is vital to define what being an individual is at work. So, here are some of the conclusions I have come to on defining individualism at work.

Bring Your Experience and Stories

We are all fortunate enough to live our own experiences in life. We all have unique stories that we tell, and companies should be open to this. It is here that people can bond, and this also encourages friendship at work.

See the World From Your Perspective

Companies do not want people who all share the same view. Although this may help their collective ambition, it destroys innovation. We want people to have their own perspectives whilst being respectful of others.
