After choosing to prolong my dream job for a career that would pay me more, I did not feel as fulfilled as I thought I would. We often make serious compromises in life to make sure we have enough money in our pockets.

In this short, I will highlight two reasons why the sacrifice of those things we believe will bring us flourishing is never worth it in the short or long term.

Delaying Gratification Only Works When We Pursue Flourishing

In a world with so many distractions, people are finding it hard to concentrate. And almost every article and self-help author is telling us the importance of delaying instant gratification.

However, I found it was easier to put off the things that were less meaningful in my life when I was carrying out tasks that contributed to my flourishing. Choosing to do a job for a higher pay made me less productive.

This taught me a fundamental lesson. That is, the solution to becoming more productive is in finding those activities that align with your human flourishing.

The Function of Money Is to Serve
